Storage Shed Assembly Tips

If you are purchasing an Arrow shed view the Arrow Shed Assembly Tips. For any shed installation, first be sure to check local building codes for any restrictions related to installing an outdoor structure or to see if a building permit is required. Also, some residential areas may have CC&R's that restrict things like the types or heights of sheds that can be built. Check these two things first! They could save you a lot of money and heartache down the road. Here are a couple other assembly tips:

  1. 1. Be sure to allow for enough time to get your project done. Some smaller sheds only take 2 to 4 hours, but larger buildings and sheds can take an entire day to install and longer if you are inexperienced. Trying to "cram" the installation into a 4 hour period is not a good idea!
  2. 2. Be sure to go through the shed parts and all fasteners to make sure you aren't missing anything. This can be a very cumbersome step, but one that can potentially save you hours and a lot of frustration.
  3. 3. If you are missing anything call the manufacturer and have them send the missing parts.
  4. 4. It is best to have a partner when constructing a shed. This will cut down on installation time and makes assembly go much smoother. It also gives you another set of eyes if there is anything confusing or not clear in the assembly manual.
  5. 5. Make sure that you have a level foundation. No matter what surface you are installing your shed on, be sure that it is level. This will allow the structure to be square keeping your shed much sturdier than if it is installed on a poorly prepared surface.
  6. 6. Most shed kits come with a "foundation kit" of some kind. For best results we recommend using one of these kits. This will raise the shed off of the ground as well as make the structure more stable. You can then just lay plywood on top of the floor frame kit to create nice floor for your shed. Alternatively, you can use an anchoring system of some type. Many sheds come with an option to add a concrete anchor kit for concrete pads or a corkscrew type anchoring kit for anchoring into the earth.
  7. 7. Never assemble the shed in one place and try to move it to another. ALWAYS assemble the shed in the spot it will permanently stay.
  8. 8. DON'T RUSH! It is extremely important to take your time and make sure you double check things as you go. One small step done wrong can create huge problems! Take it slow and stick to the assembly manual being careful to be precise in following the steps with accuracy. If possible, find a partner to install the shed that has experience with construction or is a "handyman" type. This can work wonders for the process!
  9. 9. Don't be afraid to call the manufacturer with questions. Most shed manuals will have an 800 number you can call with questions. This can be a valuable tool to insure that your experience is a good one and that you install your shed according to the manufacturers specifications. Good Luck!
